Greetings Nordic Folk!
Can you believe that April is almost here?  As the official season draws to a close, here’s the Nordic News you need to know:
Annual General Meeting: April 11th, 7pm
Our AGM will be held on Tuesday, April 11th, 7pm, at the Revelstoke Nordic Lodge.  Along with our regular business of electing a new board, we will also be looking for member approval of the revised bylaws (so that we are compliant with the new Society Act), as well as changes to day-user fees for next season.  Please refer to the AGM notice for all the details and links to relevant documents.
AGM Pre-Ski
If there is enough snow, the RNSC will host a pre–AGM ski.  Come to the club at 5:30pm on April 11th for a ski with your fellow members, enjoy some treats, and enjoy the democratic process.
Feedback Form for Members
The RNSC want to hear from you.   Please fill out this google form and share your thoughts about the club, suggest ways we might develop, and tell us how you’d like to be involved!
Trail Grooming Ends on April 2nd
Our trail-grooming crew commits to a season-long schedule of late nights and early mornings to make our trail system great.  It has been a fantastic season on our trails largely due to their efforts, so be sure to thank a groomer near you.
Don’t forget the Lost and Found
Next time you are at the club, check the lost and found for things that may belong to you or your family.  You never know what you could be missing!  Unclaimed items will be sold (by donation) at Member’s Night next year.
RNSC Racing Team Shines at the Nationals!
The RNSC turned in one of the club’s finest performances ever at the Ski Nationals in Canmore last week.  Thanks to the efforts of our athletes and their coach, Matt Smider, we were the top performing club in all of BC!  Read about Beth’s gold, Elizabeth and Alana’s silver, and the other fine results from our racers in The Revelstoke Review or the Revelstoke Mountaineer.
We hope you’ve had a great season with the RNSC and we hope to see on the trails and at the AGM.

Greetings Nordic Folk!
Here’s some Nordic news to get March off to a great start!
Team Scream – Saturday, March 4th
Get your costumes ready!  Revelstoke Nordic’s very own Team Scream race is this Saturday.
You can race solo and complete the skiathalon course (one classic lap, one skate lap), or you can make a team and race one lap each as a “Dynamic Duo”.  Here are the details:
  • The race consists of two laps of Mickey Olsen (3.75km) and can be done in teams of two as a relay OR as a single skier (skiathlon).
  • There will be prizes for best costume*, tough cookie and random draw prizes.
  • *The costume theme is “Dynamic Duos“.  E.g. Sonny and Cher, salt and pepper, Batman and Robin, Sugar and Spice, Day and Night….
  • Main race starts at 11:00 a.m.
  • Bunnies start time is 10:15 a.m. (warm-up at 10:00 a.m.) Bunnies can choose to ski Titan or laps around the Stadium.
  • Free Chilli lunch!
Please register online BEFORE March 4th if you can!  It really helps the volunteers who are organizing the event.

Wondering about Wax?
There is now a white board on the wax room door on the lower level of the lodge.  It’s a place to share information about what wax worked well for the present conditions.  So if your wax was great for your ski, please share with other skiers who might need some advice about how to wax.  Sharing is caring!
 
‘Nordic Norm’ represents Revelstoke at Gatineau Loppet
Congratulations to Norm Tennant for racing the 51km Gatineau Loppet, a race that is part of the Worldloppet Tour.  With a time of 4:20:22.2, Norm secured a top ten result in the M60-64 category.  Be sure to ask him about it if you can catch him on our trails!
RNSC Takes 2nd Place at the BC Midget Championships
It was a fantastic weekend for all of our young racers at the Midgets.  Congratulations team!  Be sure to read Matt Smider’s article in the Revelstoke Mountaineer.
 
“The Last Headlamp Hero”
No, that is not a movie about to play at the Roxy.  It is a reminder that next Wednesday (March 8th) is the final race of the Headlamp Hero Series.  Come on out and join the fun!  Here are the details:
  • Wednesday, March 8th: Skate Mass Start
  • 2.5km, 5km and 10km
  • Registration from 6-6:30pm; Racing at 7pm
  • $2 for members
  • Draw prizes donated by Skookum!

Greetings Nordic Folk!
It’s a big weekend at our club as we are hosting an OK Cup for racers of all ages from around our region.  If you are a racer or the parent of a racer, you have probably already read the race notice.  If you are not racing, please be sure to read the details in this letter because things will busy at the RNSC!
Okanagan Cup XC Race Starts Tomorrow! 

There are two days of races (Feb 11-12th), and while this promises to be lots of fun for everyone, there will be heavy traffic on the trails and in the parking lot.  There will be parking lot attendants there to help, and please be aware that only vehicles with 4 or more passengers will be allowed to use the parking lot.

Take the Free Shuttle!  We ask members and racers to please make use of the free shuttle available from the Big Eddy Fuel Station (Hwy 23 S/ TCH).  It will leave the fuel station every 30 minutes from 7:30am to 2:00pm.  (Returning from the lodge at 30 minute intervals starting at 7:45am.)

The Power of Volunteers!
The RNSC runs on volunteer power.  In advance of the big race this weekend, we want to thank the race organizers and the volunteers who will line the race course for their contributions and preparations.  We also want to thank the ski league volunteers and our volunteer coaches who give their time on weeknights and weekends to make Nordic skiing fun (and fast!) for our club members.

Enter the P’ayakentsut Loppet for Free!
We have one free entry to the Sigge’s P’ayakentsut Loppet to give away!  The Loppet is happening in Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley on February 25th.  The entry is for an adult for the 15, 30, or 50km distance.  Send your request to [email protected]g by February 10th.

Greetings Nordic Folk!

It’s Saturday morning and the trails are busy with the bustle of our ski programs, the lodge is cozy and warm, and the wood stove is warming fingers and toes.
Here’s the news from our club as we roll into January 2017:

 

Lantern Ski Success

The new year started with a beautiful lantern ski on January 1st.  Lanterns lit the trails on Main Loop and a fire ring warmed skiers at the end the journey.  Many thanks to Brendan MacIntosh and his team of volunteers for the setup, the serving, and sweep-up of this fine event!  The RNSC would also like to thank Save-On Foods for donating the supplies and snacks and Brian Gawiuk for the ice lanterns and oranges.
 

OK Cup Nordic Race – February 11th & 12th

The Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club is hosting the Teck Okanagan Cup on February 11th and 12th.  This is a two-day competition with a classic mass-start race and an interval skate race.  We are expecting 250 racers and their families.  It will be a busy time at the lodge!
We still need volunteers for this race!  To ensure a successful race we require 65 volunteers for each day.  It is a lot of fun to come out and be part of the action.  There are many jobs required including standing on course making sure the racers are going the right way, serving up food, timing, parking and many others.  There is a job for everyone, and you don’t require any racing experience at all, just the desire to lend a hand.

Headlamp Heroes

The Headlamp Heroes Race Series is an ongoing, casual, fun, evening race series that happens each month on our trails.  Come out and join the fun!
Thank-you to Flowt Bikes & Skis for sponsoring our season-opening race.  Forty-two racers made their way around Mickey’s in an exciting Interval-Start Classic event.
The remaining Headlamp Heroes events will be run on the following dates:
  • Wednesday, January 25th: Kings Court Skate Sprints
  • Wednesday, February 22nd: Mixed Technique Team Sprint (two skiers / per team)
  • Wednesday, March 8th: Skate Mass Start
All events begin at 7pm, with registration running from 6 – 6:30pm. Cost per event is $2 / member.

Adult Programs

Our adult programming began this week with our Adult Intermediate / Advanced session on Thursday and our One-Day Clinic on Sunday. Our Beginner Skate lessons begin next Monday, January 15th.
It’s not too late to sign up because there are 5-session or 10-session options available.  Visit www.revelstokenordic.org/adult/ for more information and use zone4.ca to register.

Ski League and Race Programs

Ski League is up and running and our racers have travelled near and far to attend races in the BC Cup Series in Salmon Arm and the US Nationals in Utah.  Read about the BC Cup race in the Revelstoke Mountaineer or The Times Review,

The RNSC is Dog-Friendly

The RNSC wants to thank our dog-owning members for using our trails responsibly.  We believe that our members respect and follow our policies for dogs.  If you see a person (member or non-member) that is unaware of our policies, please remind them of the club’s expectations.  It is also helpful if you bring any problem to the attention of our lodge manager, so the RNSC can deal with any reoccurring problems.  We want to ensure the best possible experience for everyone and their dog!
That’s all from the lodge.  The trails are in great shape so we hope that you are enjoying skiing with the RNSC.

Nordic News: Dec 27th, 2016

Our Lantern Ski is this Sunday! (January 1st)

The annual Lantern Ski will be on January 1st, 2017 from 5pm-8pm. Over 100 kerosene lanterns will be lit along Main Loop, as well as the lights turned on around Mickey’s Loop. There will be snacks and drinks in both the Ole Sandberg Cabin and the Day Lodge.

The event is free for members. Non-members are welcome as well, and only pay the day use rate.

Please remember to bring your own mug, and a headlamp is a good idea as well.

We are still in need of some volunteers to help with this event.
  • Parking lot help
  • Greeting/Fee collection from 6:30-8pm
  • Giving out Hot Chocolate and Cookies at Ole Sandberg Cabin

The RNSC offer clinics, classes, and competitions for every skill level.  Information about the programs for ‘Adults and Masters‘ is available on our website.

You can register online using this link for the Revelstoke Nordic Adult Lessons 2016-2017 on Zone4, and payment can be made online (service fees apply) or at the office at Macpherson during office hours.
 
 

The Groomers are Grooming!

We hope that you have had a chance to enjoy our trails over the Christmas holidays.  Our volunteer groomer crew has had the new machine out on the trails, and they (our groomers AND our trails) are in great condition.  🙂    We certainly appreciate the work of these volunteers.  Thank-you groomers!

Greetings from the RNSC!
There’s snow of the trails and we’re excited to be open.
We want to thank-you for joining and supporting our Nordic ski club.  As a member we will keep you up-to-date with our website (www.revelstokenordic.org) and occasional emails like this.  Please read on to find out about some of the great things happening at our club:
Be Part of the Lantern Ski

  • Monday, December 19th 4-6pm: Lantern cleaning and filling. We need about 5 people.

Pick up (and wear) Your Pass!
Your ski passes are available for pick-up in the lodge, and we ask you keep them visible at all times while skiing on our trails.  Wearing your pass with pride tells other skiers that you support our club, and it makes it easier for our office staff to speak to those skiers who need a reminder to purchase a day/season pass.
Speaking of Picking Up, We are Dog-Friendly.
We also want to remind dog owners to read and follow our dog policy, to respect our trails, and to pick-up after pets.  Thanks!
 
Firewood Fundraiser
This winter, you will notice two wood piles near the cat-barn and lodge.  Please do not let anyone climb on these piles.  We had intended to store this wood out of the way on Jackrabbit flats for the winter, but were unable to get up the road in the wet conditions. The current location was selected to minimize impacts on snow removal / parking availability, grooming, and skier experience. Hopefully the wood will soon be buried in snow. The wood will be cut and sold as a ski league program fundraiser in 2017.

Adult Programs: Registration
Please contact coach@revelstokenordic.org for information about our adult programs: Beginner Classic, Beginner Skate, Intermediate / Advanced.  You can register for 5x or 10x sessions and there is also a One Day Clinic.
Headlamps Heroes Race Series
Our toonie race series kicks off next Wednesday, December 21st with an interval-start classic race. Distances are 2.5, 5 and 10km. Registration is from 6:00pm-6:30pm with races starting at 7pm. Cost is $2 for members. Draw prizes for participants. C’mon out and enjoy some friendly competitive fun!
Volunteer Coaches?
Anyone interested in assisting our lead coaches with instructing our elementary and high school programs is asked to contact coach@revelstokenordic.org. Sessions run Tuesday through Thursday, January through March.
The Masters’ Ski Program for Adults

Get Your Season’s Pass!

It’s Time to get your Season’s Pass!

Get  your season’s pass and join the RNSC online using Zone4.

Here is the link to the RNSC Zone 4 Registration Page.

We also encourage you and your friends to join our club before December 1st.

Currently, there is a competition between clubs, and if we get the most member registrations (as a percentage of our member base last year) before December 1st, the RNSC could win equipment and other prizes for our club.
One prize is a fleet of kids ski gear –either 10 combi packages or 20 classic packages– whichever the winning club chooses!  This would be great for our youth programs.   Check out the contest details and the other great prizes on the Cross-Country BC website.
