RNSC is Hiring!

2022 Trail Crew

The Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club (RNSC) is looking for two Trail Crew Members to work for us this summer.

Note: RNSC currently requires all employees and volunteers to be double vaccinated for COVID.

The purpose:

The Columbia Basin Trust has given RNSC a grant to help fund a small 2 person trail crew that will work under Duane Dukart to do trail and building maintenance this summer. The CBT’s goals are to help development/maintenance of local trail maintenance while also giving a local person work and the opportunity to learn skills.

The Work:

A trail crew person will be:

  • Learning lots of new skills that can be used in future jobs.
  • Working physical jobs outside in all kinds of weather.
  • Instructed in the safety and details of each job.
  • Provided with the equipment necessary for the work except for personal clothing and footwear.
  • Doing a variety of jobs including: using brushing equipment to help clear vegetation and hauling branches/wood that have been cut down; painting, staining the lodge; hard brushing the underside of bridges of rust, building foot bridge, helping with general maintenance and helping with ditch realignment.
  • Working under Duane Dukart our Operations Manager.
  • Working as a team with a second crew member and sometimes, when safe to do so, not under the direct visual supervision of Duane.

Hours and Payment:

This job has an allotted 320 hours that will be spread out between mid-May and the end of mid-September. (If worked straight it would be 20hr/week for 16 weeks). The timing of these hours will be dependant on weather, machine availability and a successioning of tasks (you can’t dig the ditch before you move the rock!). There will be some flexibility at the worker’s discretion (painting can be done when the worker is available) but some tasks will be dependant on timing of availability of machines and non-negotiable once committed to. (For instance you have agreed that next Tuesday you are available to work for the full day, then you are committed for the full day.) We recognize the trail crew member may have other work and will try and plan with the trail crew member to avoid conflicts – up to a point.

Payment for this work will depend on the experience of the worker. The RNSC is committed to offering a Living Wage  – currently $19.51 in Revelstoke.  The RNSC is willing to consider a higher wage depending on skill levels of the applicant.

Trail Crew Applicant Requirements:

As this is funding sourced work these are non-negotiables as per our contract of funding:

  • Must be a permanent Columbia Basin resident
  • Must commit to the full 320hrs to be completed by mid-Septembert. (Please do not apply if you are moving or will be starting full time work elsewhere part way through. This would really mess up our funding agreement.)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to sign a contract to be an RNSC employee for the work. (We can not contract it out.)
  • Must be keen to have fun and enjoy an engaging work site while working hard.

If this work interests you please contact info@revelstokenordic.org with a cover letter and resume by April 30th, 2022. Candidates are reviewed as they are received.
